This event is hosted by the village and raises money for village causes as well as for cancer charities
The main event is most definitely not for the faint hearted, especially as the start takes you out of Eyam, uphill to the Roman Road at the back of Sir William Hill via Mompesson Well, on a steep incline, and coming back, after Hathersage, you need to climb up to Leam Lane onto Sir William Hill, before dropping back to Eyam Village. It is run to UK Athletics rules. There is a shorter "Fun Run" for younger entrants and those not wanting to be challenged by the complete course.
Having said it is arduous it is always also very popular, with over 500 entrants year on year with many entrants coming back each year looking to beat their previous years time, as well as wanting to enjoy the scenery which in some places offers views over five counties.
The actual course takes you through the villages Bretton, Abney and around
Eyam Moor and even though remote, is always well supported by admiring onlookers.
If you have the energy or inclination to challenge yourself, this really is the event for you - it is well worth the effort!
